josh -switch bindings were a controversy back in the mid 90's. they were one of the 1st, if notTHE first company to do step ins, and i believe thats all they had was step ins.The major flaw for switch was that most of the boots that they had to use were “switch only” style.meaning the ankle strap was built onto the boot, much like burtons flat platestep in, but with alot less support. The high back on the “high end” model left much to be desired, thus alot of people began hating them. They were also notorious for snow clogs (like burtons notbut no one seems to complain about that one) and they broke easy.Switch did manage to make a jem called the N-Style which was pure simplicity. The downfall on thatbinding was you had to now find a boot that came with a highback built into the boot, along with theankle straps. The downfall on thatbinding was you had to now find a boot that came with a highback built into the boot, along with theankle straps. Van's made them for a while, but I'm not entirely sure if anyone does now. Theadvantage of the N-style vs any other style of step in was the 2 piece click connect, and lock down lever. And the stainless steel points on both the bindings and the boots made it all but impossible to pop thebinding, a problem thats plagued step ins forever. But alas, it also made walking in the boots a majordisaster. You can loosen the binding strap thats built onto the boot, but then it feels like your feet aregoing to come out.Without a proper binding you're also carrying your board with your hands on the edges, which ironicallyare duller than the toe and heel clip on the N-style, those clips that hold the boot down resemble razorblades. So carrying your board by the bindings, which is something that most of us do, is completely out. There are still die hard Switch fans out there. I met one last time i rode π Its a pure love or hate relationshipwith that company, but its also just barely kept them afloat. Their binding designs haven't changed muchin the 15 years I've known about them, so it could be said that they're just barely hanging in there to seewhat happens. I'm not a die hard fan, but if I could get my hands on a set of new Van's with the N-styleset up, I'd trade my Ride Lx's in a heartbeat. And I think I've stressed enough on how much I like my Ridebindings. ;)here is a board with the switch n-style bindings mounted to it
and here is a pic of the bindings alone, and i think these are the 07 models:
and here is a van's boot made for the switch bindings. notice the ankle strap:
my 1st board was a k2, and i still have it. and its still kinda rideable π their quality is good.i think the anagram will suit you just fine. if you like the graphic with the length, you're set!bindings are your call. if you have a ski store, go check out all they have to offer. theressome new technology out this year thats really tops. i saw a set of k2's that were reallyfunky. like flow's step in, but better! but also more complicated and probably more proneto breaks. I ride flows on my rail board for quick ins and outs, and “ride lx” for my terrainpark board because..well…i like how secure they make you feel. see what catches youreye. burton also makes great bindings, but frosty will have to fill you in on the plate issue,i dont know if they still only ship them with the 3 hole set up or if they ship em with both plates.stomp pads….amy 1st board was a k2, and i still have it. and its still kinda rideable π their quality is good.i think the anagram will suit you just fine. if you like the graphic with the length, you're set!bindings are your call. if you have a ski store, go check out all they have to offer. theressome new technology out this year thats really tops. i saw a set of k2's that were reallyfunky. like flow's step in, but better! but also more complicated and probably more proneto breaks. yeah i have a friend in the uk that says you guys have been screwed as far as snow this season. is it really that bad over there?
post some pics of the end of the season if you get a chance. π i saw a shred film fromscotland last year that was so awesome looking minus the white out. would love to seewhat you got to ride over in europe. π

ok, switch n style bindings were and still are my dream bindings. i rode a board with themonce, and i loved it. despite everyone else hating it, with the ankle support and high backbeing on the boot itself. it does make walking a bastard.heres the problem…n styles are hard to find. every once and again you can find a pairbut they're usually not comfortable. van's used to have one for the n style, and they wereso comfortable!if your wife has ridden this board with the n-type and nailed the lock in 1st try, thats probablythe reason she loved them. thats the reason i loved them. it was just like…click click go.
look at frosty pimpin the forums! welcome to the dark side ;)i have a recon, i'm 5'8 148 10 1/2Β and i ride a 146 on the recon.a 152/3 is a good midrange compliment. being almost 6ft dontgo lower than a 148. trust me, my 146 is sloooooooow. and itsso short it throws off having a super flexible board (the reconis a flex..3?)other option is a forum manual (all manufacturers will have a boardlike this one..its the rail killing board). myΒ manual is a 156, but thatsbecause i like the superflex of it. its a flex 2 i think. btw, both of these boards are available in last years model on ebayfor nothing…9 times outta 10 brand new still in the forum bag.and the only difference between last years model and this years modelis, well to me, last years models graphics look sooo much cleaner.happy hunting!
nope no hazing! we dont bash on each other like the other sites do, which is why i joined this one.its all about the fun, and excitement, of snowboarding. π welcome to the site!
so you're having trouble on heelside turns. usually 1 or the other gives alot of people problems.heelsides are also my problem. what i do when im going onto my heelside edge is keep my weight centered, and flex my front toe up, which twists the center of the board to put the frontheelside edge into effect. then you have to just lift up your back toe and wham, you're on heelside!this all has to be as fluid of a motion as it can be, or you'll catch an edge, or start flat spinning, which is what you're doing now.the trick is to keep your weight centered in these. too far forward with your weight and you'll bewhipped over, but thats pretty far hanging out forward. leaning back gives you the opposite effectand causes you to get into the stop position on heelside, and spin you around.you'll have to find your balance point for heelsides since they'rso you're having trouble on heelside turns. usually 1 or the other gives alot of people problems.heelsides are also my problem. what i do when im going onto my heelside edge is keep my weight centered, and flex my front toe up, which twists the center of the board to put the frontheelside edge into effect. then you have to just lift up your back toe and wham, you're on heelside!this all has to be as fluid of a motion as it can be, or you'll catch an edge, or start flat spinning, which is what you're doing now.the trick is to keep your weight centered in these. too far forward with your weight and you'll bewhipped over, but thats pretty far hanging out forward. leaning back gives you the opposite effectand causes you to get into the stop position on heelside, and spin you around.you'll have to find your balance point for heelsides since they're your problem, and im guessingyour skill in toeside results from skateboarding..thats where i got mine.heres some advice i actually got from a riding instructor.position for toeside – pee like a boyposition for heelside – pee like a girla few of my friends learned to ride on this advice alone. maybe it'll work for you too i dont know.some others will chime in with their advice, take all you can get, everyone has a different wayof learning, one of the methods surely will work. πalan – all of my snowboards have a white base, and all of them BUT 1 have mild discoloration.
