February 24, 2008 at 2:54 am in reply to: New terms added: Manual, Butter, Nosegrab, Nose-press, Bonk. #2722is a butter different from that whole noseslide 270 out sequence that everyone runs?the whole hop on 90, tweak to 45 then 180 out and call it a 270?cause honestly this is my favorite rail trick and its such a pain to say b/s noseslide 270 out.
josh – im not sure about where you're at but around the lower east side here the percentagedrops the further into next season you get. our local shop still has 06 stuff which is75% off. on some of the sites the sales have already started. on the 2 boards i boughtthis year, if i had waited till now to get them, i could have bought them both for theprice of 1. almost 3 for the price of oneive been shopping http://www.tightboards.com because they have killer sales going on rightnow. i bought my grudge for $600 and my manual for $350, and they have them both on sale, the grudge at alittle over $300 and the manual at $190.oh, our in town store sun and ski has an 04 k2 something or other i cant rememberfor $75 that no one has picked up still hahah. and its still in the wrapper, never opened.
not yet, im working on it. im moving to louisville ky in july and ill have one a few months after that. im trying to be a skateboarding photographer but the nashville scene isnt all that great, these kids are…ok but no one really pushes the envelope much. so its hard to get pictures that really stand out.but louisville has this huge concrete skate park thats about the size of a football stadium and ive seen kids get mad air and bust 720s and all kinds of transitions. (plus people ride it when it snows which is a major plus for me haha i love snow covered skate parks)so after i move ill put up a site. all i really have right now is some nashville city scenes, some macroflower shots, and im working on a “homeless people of Nashville” book, so a few gutter portraits.
i skate and build bmx bikes on the side. plus im a photographer so im always doing something.
i have a psp but not that game. plus a sega genisis, a super nintendo, a ps1 and ps2 and…get this..my girlfriend let me borrow her nes! nintendo 1 baby!ive been playing excitebike all day! wooo!
i rock the foursquare chino “easy mooning access” pants. they have extra huge strapson the waist that you can pop quick if you have to drop your pants and show someonethe sunny side on the slopes.
east coast ice riding almost demands knee protection. ive never bonked my nogginsnowboarding, but ive landed on my face a few times. not fun. but i always regretit when i forget the knee protection. my knees look like they have soft balls surgically installed the next day.
haha mid layers! i throw my snow pants over what im wearing when i get to the resort.so usually some pinstripe dc skate pants and a t-shirt. oh, plus the giant dollar signnecklass ahha.
mitts. i have hotfinger gloves which rock for really really cold days, but i get better grip with mitts.
If you can rent for the rest of the year and wait till the end of summer alot of online stores throw in huge discounts to “last years gear”. And alot of times the only thing thats changed is the graphic..if that.I know “the-house.com” has major sales STILL on last years equipment. They still have some 2 year ago boards for almost 75% off in the Forum section. They have Malmi's pro model board (im a bit of a forum nerd) for $200 (i think i haventchecked lately) and 2 years ago that board was almost $600.
im really jealous frosty! im envious of the oregon/washington area for having a killer snow year this year. im just glad ive gotten to ride as much as i have.kudos on the website by the way. its great to find a friendly snowboarding site that isnt justa bunch of kids trash talking anyone who dares ask a question (as most of the others are).thanks for rockin your knowledge bro!
Im unfortunatly hitting the east coast trash ice of the south unless i can get luckyenough to get away to colorado for a week.ive been cruising perfect north indiana..which has decent snow but the differencebetween beginner and intermediate is insane..like going from a slope bumpto a 45ft table. plus the 10-20 minute lift lines and the crazy rules make itnot so fun.and paoli peaks indiana..which is like riding on 4ft of hail. its almost impossibleto turn at the resort today. we hit a blackie comming down pretty swift and i almostran off the course into the woods trying to carve out a turn. the more you leanedin to ride the edge the more your board went under the ice until you just stopped.if they had their snow right they would have a killer resort. they have rails formiles in a great stepper program. and they have a half pipe groomer, but nohalf pipe this year.
I used a file on my old k2, but it was a backup board so i didnt care if it got messed up or not.luckily i didnt do any damage to my edge, but it just seems sketchy (even though i learnedit from transworld snow tune tips).11″ file with scotch tape wrapped around the base 6 times about where you hold it (2″ from theend is what i used)it gave me my 2 degree bevel and resharpened my edge a bit. of course you still have to doit on the sidewall edge as well.if you're going to a resort id just let them do it at the pro shop. it shouldnt cost much foredging unless its in horrible shape, and if it is THAT BAD, its better to let a pro grind itdown and resharpen it anyways. and while you're there you can pick up a sharpener.(i personally perfer the ones with guides. but they have hand held ones that dontcost much at all)Im sure there are other tricks. thats juI used a file on my old k2, but it was a backup board so i didnt care if it got messed up or not.luckily i didnt do any damage to my edge, but it just seems sketchy (even though i learnedit from transworld snow tune tips).11″ file with scotch tape wrapped around the base 6 times about where you hold it (2″ from theend is what i used)it gave me my 2 degree bevel and resharpened my edge a bit. of course you still have to doit on the sidewall edge as well.if you're going to a resort id just let them do it at the pro shop. it shouldnt cost much foredging unless its in horrible shape, and if it is THAT BAD, its better to let a pro grind itdown and resharpen it anyways. and while you're there you can pick up a sharpener.(i personally perfer the ones with guides. but they have hand held ones that dontcost much at all)Im sure there are other tricks. thats just my 2 cents. -
