i dont recommend it at all. if the plate is aluminum, it'll probably last a day or 2, but its going to put alot of stress on the bindings and the board on whichever side you left the screw out. ive never tried to turn the binding plate for a 4 bolt to fit a 4 bolt board with a 3 screw set up..if that makes sense. id call the place you got them from and get a new binding plate before you ride it, seriously. i rode a mountain with an aluminum base plate for a day when i lost a screw on the mountain and it did ok, but i make more toe side turns so i put the 2 screws on my heelside because thats where alot of the resistance was and nothing bad happened to me, but when i tried that with a plastic base plate, the thing cracked 2nd run. isnt it still early enough to return it before the snow falls?besides, you just got a killer board, id hate to see you harm that thing beforei dont recommend it at all. if the plate is aluminum, it'll probably last a day or 2, but its going to put alot of stress on the bindings and the board on whichever side you left the screw out. ive never tried to turn the binding plate for a 4 bolt to fit a 4 bolt board with a 3 screw set up..if that makes sense. id call the place you got them from and get a new binding plate before you ride it, seriously. i rode a mountain with an aluminum base plate for a day when i lost a screw on the mountain and it did ok, but i make more toe side turns so i put the 2 screws on my heelside because thats where alot of the resistance was and nothing bad happened to me, but when i tried that with a plastic base plate, the thing cracked 2nd run. isnt it still early enough to return it before the snow falls?besides, you just got a killer board, id hate to see you harm that thing before you even break it in.
you can take em off but once you do they're pretty much worthless. as in every time you take it off you have to buy one. well most of em. i got lucky with my little metal spikes once and could put them back on.as far as necessary, on some boards they are. my grudge is impossible to ride without a stomp. the topsheet is a polished clear coat and is slicker than ice. but my manual isnt nearly as slick so i can ride it without. i use clear skateboard griptape on my grudge as a stomp pad. find out this winter if it'll work or not. its not paper so it should, and you cant even tell unless you're looking directly at it.
i like the black and white, but that seems more black/red combo.either way, that'll look hot. my pants/jacket setup is black/white.
For those that compete (lvl 3) you could do something simple to start like a seasonpass in lieu of being paid at their home resort. Some of em are pretty reasonableas far as price (even if its just a weekend or weekday 1 day a week pass or something, savings adds up!).Great idea on the test. You should do a phone interview as well so you're not gettingsomeone that looks good on paper but has a bad attitude when on the hill.(havent found anyone like that on this site though)
what really really helped me get over my fear of rails (which was huge due to many many many skateboarding mishaps) is nose/tail slides, but riding hard on the boot side and trying not to be so stylish and far out on the nose/tail.the whole fear for me was wacking my head on the rail, so i went this route and it had me confident within a few weeks (tip/tail slides are a bit tricky so it'll take longer to learn) but when you fall, you fall just as if you had caught an edge (which if you snowboard, this has probably happened many times before and many times again)also, taking an old 2 liter soda bottle and a skateboard deck (no trucks) and standing on it helps with balance as far as boardslides. just put the board in the middle of the bottle kind of in a plus formation and see how long you can keep both ends off the ground. when you can keep it up as long as you want efforwhat really really helped me get over my fear of rails (which was huge due to many many many skateboarding mishaps) is nose/tail slides, but riding hard on the boot side and trying not to be so stylish and far out on the nose/tail.the whole fear for me was wacking my head on the rail, so i went this route and it had me confident within a few weeks (tip/tail slides are a bit tricky so it'll take longer to learn) but when you fall, you fall just as if you had caught an edge (which if you snowboard, this has probably happened many times before and many times again)also, taking an old 2 liter soda bottle and a skateboard deck (no trucks) and standing on it helps with balance as far as boardslides. just put the board in the middle of the bottle kind of in a plus formation and see how long you can keep both ends off the ground. when you can keep it up as long as you want effortlessly then you've got a pretty good standing balance for boardslides. now just factor in forward motion and you're set. and there are plenty of youtube videos on how to make a balance board out of an old skateboard.dude. knee pads that are very stealthish. i wear big bulky skateboard kneepads when im riding on hard ice pack days and they're annoying, sweaty, and they restrain you enough to where you notice. if you could design something that covers the cap of the knee, and just some cloth or nylon mesh that supports the leg above and below, ill buy a few sets. the knee cap cover just cant be too big, thats my biggest beef with protection equipment.
t-shirts and stickers are probably the best way to get the word out.thats what i notice 1st when i meet people on the slopes. stickers onthe board and t-shirts their wearing.you could do something like those topsheet covers i was posting abouta month ago for anyone that wins a comp and is sporting a sticker or shirtor gear that gets your name out as a reward for props or something. startingsmall is a good thing, especially if you threw in an option of being able to takeyour favorite board and put a specially designed frosty rider “personalized” boardyou know? i think those topsheet stickers are full vinyl covers and start at like $60so its not a killer investment for a podium placement photo op of your website.you can also do mini rail jams at your local resort or get some of us to do them at ourhome resorts for almost nothing. Paoli lets you put on your own cont-shirts and stickers are probably the best way to get the word out.thats what i notice 1st when i meet people on the slopes. stickers onthe board and t-shirts their wearing.you could do something like those topsheet covers i was posting abouta month ago for anyone that wins a comp and is sporting a sticker or shirtor gear that gets your name out as a reward for props or something. startingsmall is a good thing, especially if you threw in an option of being able to takeyour favorite board and put a specially designed frosty rider “personalized” boardyou know? i think those topsheet stickers are full vinyl covers and start at like $60so its not a killer investment for a podium placement photo op of your website.you can also do mini rail jams at your local resort or get some of us to do them at ourhome resorts for almost nothing. Paoli lets you put on your own contests all the timeas long as you front the reward. (last reward was $17.50, what the sponsor had inhis pocket haha)thats what im wondering too. like if the glue would freeze or whatnot. but i remember how horrible it is to get grip tape off of a skateboard (even wet) so we'll find out!oh, and i didnt even think that k2 had a board last year completely covered in grip tape on the top sheet.
new breakthrough for people that hate to ride stomps! (hides graphics, sometimes looks tacky, whatever dumb reason you have for not riding a stomp (i used to be one of these people too))tried an experiment with clear skateboard griptape and cut it into patterns. tried it on a trampoline, and its working great!(and its cheap, most skateboard shops have scraps and they'll give them to you, or only charge you a dollar or so, i got minefree)
just got a season pass to my local terrain park for $100. weekends only starting at friday morning 9am to sunday at midnight, no time limits other than when the slopes close.and…i flat out traded my Forum 146 Manual for……
….a Forum 156 Manual! The rebound on such a short board for my height was alittle annoying, being a flex2, this should balance it out better. not to mention i traded a ridden board for a brand new one becausethe 156 was too big for him by quite a bit and it was a christmas present and you cant find a 146 to saveyour life. Im so excited, bring winter on!
ive been hitting skateparks all along the lower east coast (btw the superpark in louisvillekentucky is amazing if you have the guts to ride it)other than that just school. bah.
Thanks for the advice, i didnt know about the topsheet incorporation so i had to take a look atthis particular board and its truly cosmetic. but sweet on the heads up because if it had beenpart of the strength i might have seriously done some damage.this is an old k2 dart, and its a wee bit thicker than todays boards so ill be ok with the sanding,im only going as deep as the gashes from where other people have ran their board over it.i was talking to a paint shop guy today about a flex agent that can stand freezing temps andstill have a decent amount of flex, so im pretty excited about this!ill post pics of the progress 🙂
thats it! wow that takes me back. they ditched the eye loop though, that sucks. i thought that was the cooletsthing about the board. you could use an ankle strap instead of the little leash thing.that sucks though, i thought that board was different than what it was, thats the same as my grudge minus0.1 cm.
frosty – it might have been a wide, i cant remember. im right in the middle of being able to ride both so ive never really paid attention. but i did remember the tips because i saw the board in real life and thought it was crazy how high up they were.keep me updated on the nitro ride when you get it man. ive never even seen a nitro snowboard. heard of them, but have never seen one in real life (the southeast is sad!).rowan – congrats on the new board, i know you're gonna love it! wait till you see it up close, its a completely gorgeous snowboard. hang on the wall style art gorgeous even. and thanks for the heads up on the site! unfortunatly they dont have any skate bananas anymore :(happy 4th of july everyone!
rowan your boards on ebay for $279. its a 152 🙂 brand new and thats the 2nd cheapest price ive seen it.frosty, k2 had a board years ago that fit your specs as far as i can remember, but i cantfor the life of me remember the model name. it was an alpine board and was redand white and had an eye loop on the tail to attach your leash to. but i remember ithad a huge tip and tail and was a directional twin. it may have just been called thealpine, i dunno. but it was back in like 95-96 i think. they dont make em like they used to. :(i want an 08 lib tech skate banana for 09. i saw the 09's and im not to keen on theweird colors, but it doesnt seem as if they've changed anything so an 08 would be fine.
