Hey Frosty -I'm looking to buy a board, but I'm not sure what size to get. I'm 5'7″ (170cm), 161 lbs (73 kg), and 7.5 (US) shoe size… I've been boarding for a couple of years and prefer freeride. What size board would you recommend?Oh, another question: I've heard that there sometimes compatibility issues with Burton boards and non-Burton bindings. Are you aware of any issues with a Burton Custom X and Salomon Relay Pro or Relay Series 07 bindings? Thanks and see ya on the slopes,- Ben

Sup Ben,Look for a board 23-24cm wide and 148-154cm length.  Width is more important than length. As for the Burton compatibility thing, Burton boards come with a THREE HOLE pattern for mounting the bindings.  All other boards have a FOUR HOLE pattern, so the standard bindings have compatibility for the FOUR HOLE pattern.  When you buy your bindings, ask for the 3 hole centers (discs) and you should be all set.FR

Frosty -Thanks for the answer…These 3 hole discs you mentioned… do they come standard with bindings or will I have to purchase them separately? Will they make binding installation a hassle? Though I've only been riding for only a couple of years, I know that I dont like Burton bindings and boots, thus I'm leaning towards the Salomon Relay Series binding (and either the K2 T1, Northwave Decade SL2, or the Nitro Team TLS boot). So… I guess my biggest concern is the binding compatibility issue. Thanks again,- BenP.S: Oh, and too late on the board… my girlfriend went ahead and got me a Burton Custom X 158 (birthday gift… I love that girl… I swear, she can read my mind!)… cant return it cause I'm in Germany and she's in DC… board arrived here today.

First of all, don't fully trust me.The three hole plates won't come with the Salomon bindings because those have the 4 hole system.  Nice Bindings.:)

Hi,Although the burton custom-x is a sweet board, you will find it to be a bit too big and you will DEFINATELY have a better time on something more suited to size.  Save the custom-x for when you get bigger or trade it in at a shop.MOST binding companies make 3-hole discs.  Some includ ethem and some are extra $$ and some you just need to request them.  CHeck with your retailer to be sure.

Thanks for your insight, Frosty… you're da man!BTW – Salomon replied to my email. They said that their bindings come with a six-hole pattern, thereby allowing compatibility with Burton boards… aint that just sweet?! See ya on the slopes!- Ben
