Yeah I can't find one in the stores either, I think Wii's have been that way since they've been out lol. I'll be playing my old SSX tricky for PS2 until I can get one.
May 24, 2008 at 1:52 pm in reply to: protective gear ( wrist guards, butt guards, etc. ) any recommendations? #2847thanks for the info. I appreciate it!
I know this is an old thread, but I thought a lot of these pastimes were interesting. I usually sit on my butt and play whatever new game is out on PS3 ( grand theft auto 4 currently ). But to be a bit more on the target of the topic, I've recently purchased a freeboard and besides being scared of it due to lack of proper safety equipment, I've tried it out and if anyone is looking for a close to snowboarding feel I would suggest it. Check out this site for more info if you're interested.www.freebord.com ( yes that's the way they spell it 😆 )It's basically an overgrown skateboard with an extra wheel in the center of each truck. I'm figuring you guys already know about them, but I didn't see it in anyone's list so it's worth checking out if you haven't. have a great summer everybody!
May 9, 2008 at 12:26 am in reply to: Another One Bites The Dust – Taos NM Opens To Snowboarders! #2839that's some good news either way you look at it, what's really funny is the comments below the article! Maaaan there's some bad blood between the two groups lol. The last time I went riding, I went with a friend who skis and has been doing so longer than I've been boarding. We smack talked a little bit, then we just decided to swap equipment one night and just try it. That was one of the funniest things I've ever done lol. There wasn't anymore smack talk for the rest of the trip though! I'm glad that there's another place that he and I could go to with no problems.
I couldn't read the whole thing either lol. I kinda speed-read it, Lanier wouldn't let them build over 15 stories high due to county regulations. I personally don't see why they don't go up to extreme north GA and take advantage of the already mountainous landscape rather than try to build a gigantic ramp on flat ground. GA actually had a ski resort ( http://slopequest.com/slopes/GA/Sky%20Valley%20Resort.html ) in Sky Valley, which was probably kinda lame but would still seem to be more cost effective to enclose rather than start from scratch in the middle of the flatlands. Dawson may actually be pretty hilly considering how far up north it is, who knows. They made a great point though, there's millions of people in the metro Atlanta area, and we don't get much snow, if any honestly, so a resort like that would be a cash cow for a few brave invesI couldn't read the whole thing either lol. I'm just glad that the sport is gaining so much momentum.I'm up for that! I'll probably stay around N. Carolina until I get good enough to actually consider it worthwhile to spend some money on a good trip. The last time I went, I rode for 2 days, full day sessions and was exhausted at the end of it lol. I assume it's all the falling down and getting back up that did it lol. Everybody told be that the most common injuries come from fatigue so I chickened out on going another day. What's an average amount of time spent riding by you guys?
speaking of indoor venues, check out this ridiculously long, yet interesting article about proposed projects in atlanta.http://www.skinorthcarolina.com/article.php?table=article&mode=search&archived=false&subtype=firsttrax&article=1831I'll be in my 50's by the time it happens I”m sure lol.
man if it were true that you could only rent at ober then the experience probably would suck lol. I thought that the cloudmont resort in alabama seemed a bit humorous too. The slope side cabin rentals are only 75 bucks a night for crying out loud lol. I've been to sugar mountain twice now and I like it ( it's actually the only place I've ever been so I wouldn't know any difference ). I suppose cataloochee will be the only other alternative for me that's within driving distance.
anymore left or am I waaaay too late?
I'm gonna give it a try. My family and I will be up there anyway for our annual getaway and no more often than I get to go riding I suppose it would be foolish to pass up the opportunity. Speaking of opportunities has anyone been to this place before?http://www.cloudmont.com/It's ridiculously close to Atlanta and I'm willing to believe I could get by with a few trips there without breaking the bank or getting a divorce lol.
lol I was planning to try to go spend a day at Ober Gatlinburg during our usual family vacation to pigeon forge every year. I haven't heard anything about the place, but it almost seems to good to be true because of how far south it is compared to all the other places on the east coast. So what's the scoop on the place? overcrowded, poor snow quality?
lol! maybe I should've read this board before I started a new thred. I'm glad to hear about another east coast rider starting out! I've been 3 times now. All of them have been to Sugar Mountain in Banner Elk, NC. I live in Atlanta so that was about a 300 mile haul for me. Are there certain kinds of specs that we need to consider when looking for boards since we ride mostly on manmade stuff that doesn't tend stay powder-like for long? I saw you guys talking about the custom boards, how do they feel differently than others?
April 29, 2008 at 11:21 pm in reply to: Do I have to buy a specialty (wide) board because I wear a size 12 boot? #2811I bought an atomic hatchet 162cm. Here's the specs page on it.http://www.atomicsnowboarding.com/specs.phpIt seems to be an average width compared to the other boards on the page. I'm definately a novice at the sport right now, I can barely link my turns. I bought the board based on the length, but from what I've read, the rule is, the longer the board – the faster to ride, the shorter the board – the better to turn with. I want to eventually be more of a park rider, I tend to have more fun swapping stances while riding, or at least attemping to. I know that park riders ride shorter boards for the turning ability, but I have big-ass feet so where does that leave me? I haven't ridden this board yet so I may sell it on ebay or something if it turns out to be wrong for what I'm trying to do, but I'm just too ignorant to know the differeI bought an atomic hatchet 162cm.
