This thread is about skis and involves this question…Do people typically buy twin-tip skis in different length than traditional skis? For instance, if the ski is twin-tip, then more of the ski is raised off the surface hence a shorter contact length.  However, typically those who choose twin-tip skis desire an overall shorter ski for the sake of maneuverability.  So does it actually cancel itself out or is there some other factor involved? Here is another way to ask the same question…If I ski on 175cm length traditional skis and I go to buy twin-tip skis, am I going to be looking for the same overall length or something different?  If so, why?

I wish I knew the answer. Are you doing a split board? Curiosity has me asking.

Nope, no split board for me.  From what I can gather, skiers who ski twin-tip skis tend to choose lengths that are shorter than traditional skis, even though the twins already have a shorter contact length (running surface).  I think the reason might be that people who ski twins are more often parkers and freestylers.  Dunno though, lots of diversity out there.

Having been a skier a while back, twin tip skis are traditionally park/freestyle to give the ability to ski backwards better. Tbh i don't think there is much else to it.
