I have to admit… I am much more of a snowboarder than a wakeboarder. But, I have been out on a wakeboard a few times. As someone who has done both activities, how similar is wakeboarding to snowboarding? well, let me start by stating the biggest difference between the two.
What is the biggest difference?
OK, let’s get this straight right away… I will not be saying, “wakeboarding is in the summer, but snowboarding is in the Winter.”, OK, that would be dorky. So that aside, the biggest difference is …

I don’t know, but coming from snowboarding into wakeboarding later, I have to say that, in general, wakeboarding seems harder to stand up on. That being said, I have experienced times while snowboarding in Alaska, where I felt like I may never be able to stand up and get moving again. One time I thought I might actually be stuck and die out there! But… in general, as I stated, it’s easier to stand up on a snowboard. Take the example of being on a snowboard on a groomed resort run. If you lose your balance temporarily, you can get right back up, sometimes without missing a beat! But on a wakeboard, going down into the water seems to be much more punishing, and a deeper rut to pull yourself out of.
