December 20, 2008 at 7:36 am #248Let me begin by saying I've only been boarding once, and the guy we went with said he could teach us the basics and he had no clue what was going on. Using the size calculator my board length should be 159-160 and my board width should be 248-250.If I buy boots that are comfortable to me, would they be usable with any type of board and/or bindings? I'm thinking about buying boots but renting my board this year. How do the length and width affect my trip down the mountain? I don't care to be the fastest person down the mountain but I don't want a board that is so sensitive that I end up going down the mountain on my butt all day. Also I don't know if it makes a difference but I will be in the mountains of Arizona. I feel like a lawyer saying this but, any and all information is greatly appreciated.Thanks,TroyP.S. From a beginers point of view, this site is the best I have found. The people who respond on here seem to want to promote the sport more than critisize the idiotic questions that might come up.December 20, 2008 at 3:38 pm #3088Well let me be the first to say welcome to frostyrider.com :)If you stick with the waist width/boot size from the calculator, you should be fine with the snowboard. As for the bindings, u should be fine for the most part, however in order for everything to be like ideal, you gonna have to adjust the bindings straps and stuff every time you rent a different binding. If i were you id consider investing in some bindings. Theyre long lasting and you can get a decent pair for around $100. Seasonl rentals might help also.As far as board length, a shorter ride willl be tad bit easier to turn and especially better for freestyle spins and stuff. Lil longer is more speed carving kinda. But between like 159 and 160 it doesnt matter lol. It also depends on the board itself cuz every board has a different sidecut and stuff like that depeneding on what its designed to do basiWell let me be the first to say welcome to frostyrider.com :)If you stick with the waist width/boot size from the calculator, you should be fine with the snowboard. As for width for the most part you want to go for as narrow as possible usually cause its just better for turns. However, it cant be too narrow because you dont want toe or heel drag. That is when your boots are hanging too far(more than an inch or so, could some one correct me on that) of the side of your ride. Were here to help. 😉 lol
